For all you climbers who also surf, there's a Bill on the governors desk that, if signed, would give the public legitimate access to The Ranch near Santa Barbara for the first time in history. This is a HUGE DEAL with implications beyond just surfing in CA. For those of you who do not know, the Ranch is a 20 mile stretch of some of the best surf in California, if not the entire west coast. There is no public access and landowners have been known to closely guard their land (and surf). Folks who try to hike in are met with force. You can boat in, but you'll be hassled. For comparison, if El Capitan was on private property and only accessible by a lucky few who owned land around it or was friends with someone who did, this would be on par with opening it up to the Public for the first time.
