Haven’t been to Tahquitz in a few months but heading down next week. What’s the status of the road closures?  Is Hwy 234 from Banning open yet?

As of a couple weeks ago and some google searching yet- no. From what I've read/heard climbing up there, it won't be open this season. It got really messed up by those storms.

Was just there, and No, its not...   the 74 in thru hemet is now open 24/7 with an escort car.  243 slated for November

This is accurate. Because the escort is open 24/7 expect to be waiting in line for a decent amount of time.

What GB said.

The 243 (from Banning to about Lake Fulmor) has no projected completion date...they’ve even periodically closed access towards Black Mountain coming from the south.

Much easier to get to Holcomb. Tell a friend.

True..   Sat there for over an hour waiting for the escort on the way out.

Skip the escort and drive through Temecula.  It is about a 1/2 hour longer, but the road is very gentle and you are not rolling the dice on an hour wait for the pilot car.

crazy, crazy, crazy... definitely take the drive through Anza/ Temecula. although, I've done the drive from Hemet multiple times, and I mean multiple, and not once have I ever waited an hour...

I still think Idyllwild climbing is way over rated though, and Holcomb Valley is really the place to go.

This is ambiguous but I'm assuming you mean that the road is fully opened without an escort?

Correct, no escort. Flagging “during daytime hours”. Let the melees begin in the passing lanes just like the good ol days.

Here is to the great men and women of  Cal Trans who are doing such a great job working night and day to keep our roads open!

No, they do a hard job and we are lucky that this small town can have people help us out like that.  They shouldn't be taken for granted.

Can you clarify what exactly you mean by flagging? And daytime hours? Like Caltrans workers on either side of the closure waving people on or what

Not really.

Caltrans, one of the best examples of california government run amok. The folks that I know who worked on getting that road open are not caltrans employees. The state employees emplyoed for this project were the CHP. And the inspectors of course.  But let's be clear, Caltrans did NOT rebuild that road.

Ames Construction was the primary contractor, I do believe.

And you and I paid for it.
