Climbing Denali 2019 - Team Needed

Hi All-

I moved to Alaska three months ago and I am determined to climb Denali this coming summer. I am a very experienced backpacker, but have never done an expedition like Denali and would certainly need some guidance. For whatever experience I may lack, I will make up with my determination and eagerness to learn. If you are also interested in climbing, please let me know! I am hoping to connect or form a team of my own.

Best,

Rachel

Welcome up! If you have Wednesday evenings free you should come to the Mountaineering Club meeting on October 3rd and meet a bunch of stoked locals who have either been on the mountain or are looking for groups. https://www.facebook.com/events/1630548700423714/

And a general Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113470067945/

Or feel free to shoot me a DM (same for anyone reading this) if you want to talk about training, logistics, or anything else. I'm towards the bottom of the Alaska athlete totem pole but got up the West Buttress in an unguided group in June 2018 and felt fantastic.

For training, here's a standard West Buttress schedule adapted from mountaintrip and Mark Hamill’s book with Anchorage-area hikes of similar distance and gain. My group really cranked sled drags out to Ship Pass, laps up Flat Top, and the Beer Climb fixed line day was really useful as well. Bird Ridge is also a really good training climb.

+1 for the mountaineering club. When I was living in Anchorage I found many competent partners through the club. I also learned a ton about alpine climbing from them.

I'd be willing to try. Experience with winter camping and skiing. Horrible rock climber. Will gain ice experience this winter. Knows basic crevasse rescue, prusik and 3:1 pulley. Wilderness first responder and outdoor emergency care certified

Richard I would be interested in Baker.  I live in Boise so that would just be a drive for me. I am going to go for Rainier this year as well.  Did Aconcagua Feb 2018 - so shooting for Denali in 2020 or 2021 depending when my buddy gets back from deployment.

Branden leach The sawtooth’s where you live make baker look like a joke.

Yea but still would like to do something different, gives me an excuse to visit some friends... I do love the sawtooths though!

Hi!
I'm vaguely interested...I'd absolutely love to go but may be prevented bc of the cost, as I'm in Spokane.
I climb mountains, climbed Hood, Adams, and Rainier last summer, rock climb, and know basic glacier travel/crevasse rescue stuff.  Also learning to downhill ski bc I wanna ski mtns.
I'd love to be kept updated!

We are trying to form a small team for an unguided attemp to Denali on mid June, West Buttress route. A couple of spaniards with some experience over 6500 meters. Is there still anybody interested?

Note that the OP hasn't logged onto MP since November. Abandoned! (unless she's  responding via PM's)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
