Original name was China Man.  Now that has to be censored.  When will it end?

Make the names progressively less PG.
If you named it China Intersex no one would bat an eye, guaranteed.

Average male life expectancy is 78.74 years in the US so it's looking like ~50 more years for you if all goes well.

Some people seem to get away with it:

didn't Jon Tierney say something like "if you don't like the name of a route, scratch it out and write in your own"?

*geoff childs actually

Who is changing it?
IIRC Nate Ball started a campaign to censor quite a bit on this site.

You should start with asking him.

Absurd? Not really. Unimportant, for sure.

It was a guy named Owen David, who looks like he's since changed his username:

Different guy. This was an admin who was looking for votes to determine what was not appropriate for the site. Pretty sure it was Nate.

I remember that thread where he was asking women if certain photos were offensive:

That's it. I was looking for it when you posted.

Nothing against Nate. He is doing what he feels is right. But since he is the one who shared the route seems to me that would be a good place to start.

Where does the selective changing of route names stop?

Locally we have a route named Fucking Greenies, a reference to climbers from CO chosen by a guy from Wyoming. The route is in CO.
If someone flags the name of this route because they take offense to it does it get changed?

How do you make the name change work with a guidebook? Or local knowledge?

Woe is us, a website is taking away our First Amendment again.

I want the Nose on El Cap renamed since it is offensive to people with big noses, or shames people with small noses.

Wrong.  1st amendment rights don’t apply to a private venue, such as this website.

I think you've stumbled across a new slogan for Mountain Project

I suggested an edit and proposed China Man.

Comments lead to the posting of all the "offensive" giggidy pics in one place. Priceless
