Ferguson Fire Affecting Yosemite
|
The kids and I went for hike this morning at Little Lakes. Nice blue skies compared to yesterday, when it was a solid wall of smoke and haze starting in Mojave northward. Visibility of only about 3-5 miles. Didn't see asingle peak on the whole drive north until we got to Tom's Palce, where we could see a smidge of blue sky. We were at the Mammoth bike park in the afternoon. The lift operators were wearing masks. |

I have heard that the fire has burned to an jumped up 120 as well as jumping 41 an burning towards Badger Pass....apocalypse now... |
|
So I was planning on climbing this week between Tuolomne Meadows and Tahoe, even a bit north of there, but now the air quality and fires have got me concerned about that plan. |
|
It's starting to look like the only place to climb away from smoke and fires is up on the north coast |

Yesterday Rock Creek would have been fine. We also checked out the Sherwin Plateau area (e.g., Pocketopia) which wasn't as good, but not as bad as it could have been. Check the wind. That will probably be the biggest indicator of what your day will be like. |

Yesterday NWS Boise posted this western states smoke simulation. There's also an interactive NOAA smoke forecast here, but it's been slow and/or throwing 500 errors. |

Ferguson fire is 80% contained. Just go. |

Just to be clear, that webcam link that marcin posted hasn't been updated since last October. It's been the same image since the Meadows store shut down for the season last year. |

The webcam link for me shows today's date, I have been checking it the last few days and it seems current. |

The webcam is current as far as I can tell. It showed a different image now than when I looked at it yesterday. |

David you might need to refresh your browser. It's working and updated 5 minutes ago. I attached it as a link this time. |
