As of today climbing is open for 47 of the 53 routes. Let the fun begin.
Wear at HELMET here, non-climber tourists throw glass bottles and trash off the cliff, and the routes are still new so rockfall is always possible. Rockfall shut down the Indian Ladder Trail here (hiker area) last year for months, an unnecessary injury could shut down climbing for all for a while. Get a helmet or other gear at Eastern Mountain Sports in Albany 20 minutes away if you forgot to bring something. The park says watch out for lots of red efts (newts) which are crossing the trail now.
You must stop at the Visitor Center to sign a waiver* each time you come.
Parking will cost $6/car/visit (or you can buy a season Empire Pass good at all NY State Parks).
The Cave Wall area is CLOSED until May 1st to help protect the bats. This includes the popular Lucifugus and Arenea routes.
Bring helmets & stick clips (the TCC has provided ~10 stick clips throughout the areas).
Buy the guidebook App from GunksApps.com.
No dogs (sorry).
Help protect the trails from erosion. Walk on the inside edge of the trail as much as you can.
No "sport rappelling" or topping out. There is a lot of loose rock on all the cliff lips.
