BLM is holding meetings regarding the proposed  reduction of the Bears Ears monument. The Blanding meeting takes place on Monday, March 26 from 4:30pm-8pm; the Bluff meeting happens on Tuesday, March 27, also from 4:30pm-8pm. Since this monument revision WILL have a direct impact on climbing access, if you want to keep shredding the sandstone in peace, I recommend taking the time to attend. I'll be in Creek Pasture and will be heading there with at least a few people I'll be climbing with; the more people we can get to show up, the better and more impactful our actions will be. If you know any mountain bikers or trail runners that can attend, let's get them involved!

Here's what the BLM says regarding the meeting: "The public is encouraged to help identify any issues, management questions, or concerns that should be addressed in the planning processes. The comments will be used to help set the parameters, or scope, of the review of the land use plans. The public scoping meetings provide the public an opportunity to talk to resource specialists and submit written comments in person."

I'm posting this just to get the word out. PM me if you're interested in organizing something more formal!

Is it only a "proposed reduction" of the monument? I thought it was a done deal.

It currently says it's overloaded or under maintenance, which is different from a 404 error.

Thanks for posting this. I’ll be on a solo trek through Grand Gulch on the nights of the meetings, but will be sure to add my opinion online shortly after I return.

Please report back on your trip. Curious about conditions. It was very dry when I was there in early Feb.

I just saw your post on a trip into the grand gulch, the photo made me just about want to find you, What you did in gathering those shards and artifacts is not only illegal but demonstrates your ignorance and lack of awareness or otherwise you’re just plain stupid,  a climber, i imagine on a climbing website defineatly gives you and other climbers/hikers a black eye, when so many areas are already threatened and likely lost to development you have done youreself and your kind no good service

sadly !!

Hey Ken, have you ever been down to Grand Gulch? I could show you a similar photo from 20 years ago. But that it was not me who did the gathering. it was other people. So do not ASSUME that the person who took the photo was the culprit cause at this point it is making you look like an ass.  If you want to educate people take a different approach.
