We're part of the REI Co-op family,
where a life outdoors is a life well lived.
Taking a cue from REI, LL BEAN will not honor its lifetime warranty anymore. A class action lawsuit has been filed.
LL bean execs stated that the lifetime warranty was part of their marketing strategy to gain customers and sales.
Wasn't it a "satisfaction" guarantee?
People abused the hell out of that. Good. Maybe they'll actually start making good shit again.
People DID take advantage of their return policy, but that was mostly due to the fact that LL Bean did not require proof of purchase in order for someone to initiate a return.
As a result, you had a large number of people rooting through garage sales and thrift stores in order to find cheap LL Bean products to "return."
Bean could have simply required proof of purchase in order for returns to be processed. Instead, they chose to get rid of their lifetime warranty..
What's wrong with returning thrift store items?
