not to mention every time a gay person takes, the barometric pressure recalibrates to match your climber’s ideal send temp

Hi Amanda,

Okay I have to ask, why are you only looking to climb with people in the LGBTQ community?

Do you look to climb specifically with other men sometimes? What about people that climb the same grade as you? What if you lived in another country? Would it be fun to climb with other Brits (assuming that you're British based on your location) sometimes? It's sometimes fun to spend time with people that share your values, interests, orientation, background, etc. Nothing wrong with seeking that out.

I’m gay, I climb with straight people all the time but sometimes it’s fun to climb with other queer people because 99% of my life is spent in a hetero-normative atmosphere. That is to say the default way of thinking is heterosexual even if it’s not homophobic.

Climbing is a very social activity, and sometimes it’s nice to socialize with folks that share an interest. Sometimes it’s fun to climb with folks that are completely different from you. Sometimes it’s nice to meet people while climbing that you might be interested in dating too

No why would I?

Only to the extent of the climb, if doing a committing multipitch you have to discriminate on the grounds of safety and style. You wouldn't take some gym noob who can barely climb a 5.10 in the gym on a speed ascent of free rider.

Nope and yes i am a Brit.

I climb with who ever wants to go climbing, I climb with people from all walks of life often times politically, religiously and ethically completely apposed to me and I have never had an argument or anything more than them informing me of their beliefs while climbing and that's only because i ask.

my climbing communities thus far have been dominated by straight cis men. good friends, but they can take up a lot of space, leaving me (and my very few queer climber friends) feeling small. sometimes it’s nice to feel seen, heard, and real while pursuing the things you love.

Why does anyone care about Amanda's motivations? This isn't something that needs to be debated.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
