Looking into a piolet and wandering if anyone can tell me what they meant by a pick and shaft type of 1 is?  I know about B and T ratings but not sure if one of these translates to a 1 type?  Couldn't find anything on the net about this.

Type 1= B rating

Type 2= T rating

(This is roughly how it works I don't know how it plays into the CE or UIAA rating system)

Don't know the specs, but the T rating is stronger and more durable.

Type 1 (formerly B) is strength rated length wise and  across the shaft (so it can be used as a deadman). Type 2 (formerly T) is rated for strength and torque.

Most alpine axes will have a type 1 rated pick and shaft, while technical tools will have a type 2 pick and shaft. Some tools out there will be rated type 1 and 2 meaning they are rated for torque and lateral pressure, and some (like the BD swift) will have a 1 rated shaft and a 2 rated pick

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
