Hey folks,

I am a newer climber (started earlier this year) and am going to be visiting LA in early January (6-10th) to do an interview at UCLA. I am excited to do some climbing while I'm there and am looking for climbing partners/local tips on good places to go as a newer climber. At my gym in Asheville, NC, I climb V2/V3s easily and project V4s. I am not used to the rocks out West at all so I'm a little concerned about where to go. Any advice is much appreciated!

You should just go to Stoney Point on either weekend day or Tuesday afternoon. Head to Boulder 1 or Turlock and you can find some people to let you join them. You'll probably find the grades a bit hard. I would say try some V1s and then maybe a few of the V2s and 3s. Three Pigs will probably be a good problem to start on at solid V0.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
