Mid-December ice climbing with shortish approach somewhere near Washington? Maybe with decent camping or lodging options?

Hoping to surprise my wife with an ice climbing trip. She's been pretty sick for the last year, so we could be limited to shortish (under 3 miles) approaches. I lead wi3. Wouldn't mind top roping wi4/5/6. Hoping to lead wi4 this season, so maybe this'll be the trip...also would be stoked on some mixed climbing.

Any thoughts or recommendations? Any beta for city of rocks ice? Idaho ice?

Leavenworth is all the rage for ice climbing and holiday cheer.

Oh shit. Hahaha. I forgot this isn't cascade climbers and I don't have my hometown on here. I'm about 25 minutes out of Leavenworth, so we'll be climbing there all winter.

Hyalite or Canmore are your best options.  I've climbed in both places extensively, feel free to ask me any questions you might have.

City ice is pretty fickle.  You really need to know someone who's local.  Maybe signing up on the FB page for updates.  Right now, I'm guessing, with not much snow and warm temps (mid 40's) there isn't any ice.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
