RR locals, need partner Nov 5-9'ish or advice on solo toproping...

First, I did post on Partner Forum as well. Here is the link with some details. I might have a partner for Nov 4, but the rest is up in the air. I understand there are other partner calls there too, but I'm hoping to get some firm commitment (in terms of time, availability, and interest) before I head down long ways driving solo.

In case I do not find a partner for most those days, can you RR locals (or not local but familiar with the area) give me some advice?

1) What's the best local place (campground, gym, or shop?) that give people the best chance of finding partners? I'm thinking Camp IV in Yosemite kind of place. Or, are you aware of other online venue (besides MP) such as a Facebook group for RR partner search? (Again, there is one for Yosemite.)

2) If I don't find a compatible partner, I'm willing to spend days solo'ing. But would rather find a place where either there are already fixed lines for productivity or where I can safely set up my own and run laps on quality climbs. I don't do rope soloing on lead, but feel comfortable toprope soloing. If you have this knowledge, can you please PM me? I promise I'll not spread the local secret.

I’ve heard of people snagging partners on a regular basis at the campground (iirc they have a message board there) how true that is who knows. Desert Rock Sports also has a message board I think but again I’ve never met anyone who just walked up and hung out at the shop for a while and met a partner. It is the “season” here so honestly you might have better luck than I may be giving credit for but as far as like a “sure thing go ‘here’ and you’ll find someone” we don’t really have that.

Your best bet IMO is MP ...either the forums posts or directly messaging people in the partner finder.

Campground for sure will be your best bet for finding partners if MP doesn't work.

Good luck!

Mei, there is a Facebook group called Rock Climbing Women that I think is based out of LV. Lots of members there, at least. Check that out.

To the best of my recollection, there's no cell reception at the campground. Just a heads up. It can make communication with partners not staying there a bit of a drag.

If I wasn't going to be on the east coast then I'd come out and climb with you. Best of luck with partners. Phyl

Phyl and Mei, there IS cell phone reception (at least w/AT&T) on the road exiting the campground, just a couple hundred yards away before the turn off to the BLM Fire Station.

I also had sporadic reception from the campground in the evening, about 40% of the time.  Am not sure why sometimes I could surf the internet and make phone calls and other times had no reception at all, from exactly the same campsite.  It might have been related to weather or cloud cover....?

I hope you can find a partner, Mei.

I get reception at Red Springs lot, but not Kraft parking.

TerryE, with Verizon I don't usually get a signal until a few blocks before RR Casino, but maybe this fluctuates, as you say with cloudcover, etc.

Thanks all for the great information. I'll be going offline for a few days until midweek. Once I'm online again, I'll check weather and talk to a couple of (local) prospects. It's looking like the trip could happen. I'm psyched!

The trip did happen! I want thank everyone who responded here or via PMs with good information. Even though in the end, only one day of outing materialized off of MP, I appreciate everyone's good intention and willingness to help!

I understand that people sometimes have unexpected (sometimes unpleasant) experience with other climbers they hook up on the Internet. Thankfully, I've been fortunate. I want to give a shout out to MP user Rprops, the local I did climb with, who was up front in communications and delivered as we planned. Funny guy too! We knocked off an 8pitch route fast and I was back in the Bay Area at midnight the same day. I also want to give a shout out to MP user Kneebar, who is not a RR local but spends quite sometime there. Lots of laughs with him too. They'd get my thumbup if there was a partner feedback mechanism here.

The message board at the Campground also got me a nice partner for a day of sport climbing.

I hope to return to Red Rocks soon and often (instead of waiting for 14 years) now that I've learned inexpensive flights can be had between the Bay Area and Las Vegas. There are still so many routes I have not touched (Cloud Tower and Original Route, etc. are the classics on my list, and I don't shy away from obscurity). If any local crusher is antsy to run up some quality routes and is out of luck getting a partner, drop me a note. I'm willing to make the trip for some rad ascents.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
