An Iowan here who loves the outdoors. Travelling with 3 other friends who are climbers, and we all love seeing new things, drinking coffee and trying new beers. We’ll be in the LA/Malibu area the week before Thanksgiving. Any suggestions on what we should do?

Sounds like you'd be interested in Malibu Wines or the Malibu Wines Wine Safari. Conveniently it's also close to the Miniholland Boulders which are fun for an afternoon of post wine climbing.

Looking for starfish at Leo Carrillo is cool.

Point Dume is worth climbing at just because it's right at the ocean. But it's a shitshow.

Malibu Creek is really good sport climbing.

There are various hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Duke's, Nobu, or Gladstone's are classic Malibu dining options.

Surfing is good.

There’s also some really cool hiking and a long Sand Slide in Malibu.

Get 10 a.m. tickets for the Getty Villa, then hit the Reel Inn just up PCH for some fish tacos or grill fish on the patio.  If it's nice, there's an underpass you can use to hit the beach.  There's also a winery right there, Rosenthal, where you sit outside under the oaks sipping wine.  If you feel like nature in the morning vs. culture, hike to Eagle Rock in Topanga State Park, just north of PCH, then the Reel Inn, etc.

Any good breweries/coffeeshops in these areas? :)

+1 Echo Cliffs - also one of the best hikes in the Santa Monica mountains if you loop up to Sandstone Peak.

The Big Dume beach area is really neat, tidepools etc., close to Pt Dume climbing area. You can also walk down, past a handful of covers, past Little Dume to the Paradise Cove pier and cafe.

I used to live in Venice, which is about 30 minutes south of Malibu (very dependent on traffic).  The Santa Monica/Venice area has got good breweries and coffee shops.  My favorites are Santa Monica Brew Works (try the blonde ale!) and Intelligentsia Coffee.  Unfortunately, the area is crazy expensive, so be prepared to shell out what will seem like highway robbery for a cup of coffee/beer.  While you're there, I have to recommend La Isla Bonita taco truck.  Right at the intersection of Rose and 4th, I think its the best Mexican on the west side.  Enjoy!

Sunny Blue isn't sushi, though.

I love Sunny Blue. But just so the person asking the question understands, it's Omasubi. Which is like sushi-rice sandwich balls. They're awesome. But not sushi.

We have a good time in Chatsworth Andrew. Come on out and run some TR's on a Sat or Sun, go to Los Torros, drink a bunch of Margies and get driven home.

A good way to spend a day in the winter.

Great vid.

Do you know the history of the name of the Turlock boulder? I hate to admit it but I grew up in that town. Did Royal (who later lived in Modesto) name it?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
