Well it's currently 23 degrees at 10k with about a foot of snow in the wasatch. Mabey some alpine ice out there already? Looks like it's gona warm up this next week but regardless it's time for the 2017-18 ice conditions thread!!

Things could form up higher in the next week or so with the projected weather with warmer sunny days and cold nights.  Good weather for the alpine ice, perhaps not good for the first few months of the snowpack. Could be a good year for the fickle Tetons fall ice too.  Looks like people are already getting after it in Montana...

Yup looks like there has been some sends in Montana, Wyoming AND UTAH!

Getting ready for the cold.

Temp needs to drop already! Foaming at the mouth with anticipation.

Coming in in the Uintas...other stuff forming up high.  Nothing really "in condition" though.

November wall was "in" enough Sun for my son and I to TR 4 of the routes. Someone had been there Saturday as well judging from the tracks.

Pretty thin and breakable, but can't be picky in October.

Rumor has it that a new ~800' line was done over the weekend in the Uintas.

Actually not so much a rumor but really first hand knowledge from the FA party.

Are the TR anchors on the November wall and mosquito wall bolts, trees or do you have to use screws?

November wall is tree(s). If there are bolts they were under snow.

What are some of the "must do" ice routes in Ogden ... if any?

Any reports on ice at November/Mosquito in the Uintas?

luke smith · · Salt Lake City, Utah · Joined Feb 2012 · Points: 50

No ice on the November wall area as of last Friday, and nothing formed in the last week from first hand experience.  We'll see what the incoming storm brings with it.

Golden Spike in the Uintas is in, climbed it twice this week. It was in thicker and was super fun yesterday. A good bit of mixed climbing throughout, especially the first pitch.

Didn't climb it, but this is how the one who knocks is looking:

Just a forewarning to anyone attempting to do the golden spike. The approach up the snow covered scree f***ing blowsssssssssss. Descent is not terrible if you bum slide a bit. Watch out for your cornhole.
