backpack taper

Here's a question for the masses: do you prefer a climbing pack to taper up (like the Deuter Guide 35+, say), or taper down (like most Mammut packs?)

Most important: WHY do you like your pack to taper the way you like your pack to taper?

Do you like your pack to taper horizontally  \/ /\ ? Or do you like your pack to taper vertically?  (also /\ \/, but this time viewed from the side).

Do you like to tack your paper with a stack of paper tacker?

Upward taper. I prefer to have more room at the bottom for bulky items like sleeping bags.

I also feel that weight is distributed better with this shape.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
