Dragontail conditions

Hey all,

I'm planning on doing the scramble up to dragontail peak around 8/26-28.  Planning on going Asgard pass -> snow Creek glacier.

I'm trying to decide if crampons / axes are necessary.  It seems like the glacier is pretty well melted out by that time, but there may or may not be a few hundred feet of snow left to traverse.  I'm pretty confident, but my partner is new to snow travel.  Will the boot pack be secure enough to not need crampons, once it warms / softens up a bit? Bonus points if you have recent pictures.  I'll bump this in a couple weeks before we make our attempt.

Hey Eric, I think that you'll probably be fine without gear.  If you can get ahold of some light crampons, then I'd bring them - you're not carrying technical gear, so you can afford the couple of extra pounds for some traction!  I personally would not feel the need for an axe, but a trekking pole would be handy for balance.  Feel free to PM me if you have other questions.

Thanks Nick.  I can get my hands on two pairs of strap-ons, so I think I'll bring them.

Any one make it up there last weekend?

Good luck Eric! I hear you're a seasoned pro with strap ons.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
