Climbing in Squamish

A friend and I are going to Squamish for labor day and we're scoping out the camping situation up there. Seems like a lot of spots are first come first serve.

Does anyone know of good, cheap or free campsites or is anyone willing to accommodate two extra people at an already reserved campsite?

Most are first come, first serve, so try to get there as early as possible. There are also several campgrounds like Klahanie that can be reserved in advance. There is also a new climbers campground that just opened up that should alleviate some of the camping pressure. Chek also added something like 30 sites this year.

you can get more beta on the climbers campground from the Squamish Access Society

Anecdotal, but  I've had pretty good luck asking around to share a site in the chief campground. The sites are all big enough for two three-person tents. Just have cash (and beer!) on hand to sweeten the deal.

Otherwise there are the options mentioned above: the new campground, klahanie, the campground by the rec center, checkamus (good if you want to sport climb), and driving 2.5km down the Mamquam forest road.

Yeah the first come first served sites are going to be tough for us to get because we're driving up from Portland after work on Friday and we'll be arriving pretty late.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
