I was leading a route yesterday and felt a pop in my left ankle as I was putting pressure on my foot. It startled me more than anything, but I didn't want to chance further injury so I lowered down and had my partner finish the route.
I believe I sprained the ankle, though swelling and bruising is minimal. I can stand on it but can't rotate outwards without some pain. Otherwise, there is no pain.
This was on my fourth route of the day so I was pretty warmed up already.
I'm baffled as to what I did here, or why it happened. I climb several times a week in addition to hiking and cycling.
Has anyone else experienced such an injury? Thoughts on how to prevent?
