Per Ron Konowitz on the Adirondack Rock Facebook group:
"Due to safety issues regarding hiker and climber parking affecting Emergency Response Vehicles providing Emergency Services to homeowners within Owls Head and a general lack of respect of privacy and consideration for the local homeowners in Owls Head , the trail to Owls Head has been closed on the weekends until further notice. The start to this trail is on private land and on a private road. NY State only owns the top section of Owls Head from the side where the current trail starts. NY State has been working on a reroute on NYS Forest Preserve Lands for awhile now."
Legitimate concerns with the closure- hiking traffic is quite heavy here, especially on weekends, due to the shortness and ease of the trail and the pretty summit. Hopefully a resolution is made and weekend access is restored to this great little introductory crag.
