APD recovered a stolen vehicle and upon returning that vehicle to the owner a third party's climbing gear was discovered. I have since come into possession of the gear and I would really like to get the rack back to the right person if at all possible. I figure that this forum is the best place to start and am hoping that the trustworthy, well intentioned people of this sport will be able to help. I suppose I have to function off of the assumption that the person who is missing their gear would be able to describe the gear, providing enough correct info, to lead me to a point of reasonable certainty that it is, indeed, their rack.

You should let Stone Age know about this.

Also, I heard about a theft in the N Univ/Washington/ISchool? area sometime in the not too distant past.  If I find info, I'll send them you're way or vice versa.

How does a third party legitimately come into possession of stolen goods/evidence from the police? Or should I just not ask since this is Albuquerque, after all?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
