I read a lot of climbing books, review a lot of climbing books, and until a couple of years ago, I neglected this one. It's a classic, but I figured what Robert MacFarlane and David Roberts retold about it was enough. Well, it wasn't and it isn't.
I reviewed Edward Whymper's 1871 (seriously) book Scrambles Amongst the Alps 1860-69. It wasn't as dull or un-readable (i.e. like Adam Bead, groan). Check out my review and go get it for yourself: https://suburbanmountaineer.com/2017/04/20/edward-whymper-and-scrambles-amongst-the-alps/
