Was curious to know if there is climbing at HCR while it's raining. I feel like somewhere it said you can climb even if it's raining. Can't find that again though. If this is true.. how many routes are there? What grade are these routes? Trying to figure out what we're gonna do if it rains on our week long trip. Thanks for any help in advance.
Unlike the sandstone out west, the sandstone at HCR is pretty solid. The only thing to really worry about with the rain is lack of friction. Hit up some boulders or overhung routes if it's just a light rain. Otherwise if everything is damp and drippy, there are lots of hiking trails along the river with good overlooks and waterfalls. Just be careful on wet trails. There is also paddling if there's enough water, assuming it's warm enough or you have wetsuit/drysuit.
As far as areas to climb, it will depend on how much rain and direction of wind. The goat cave will likely be the driest but routes there start at 10c and the rest are 11s and 12s. The circus wall and prophecy wall are both overhung with some easier routes, but likely won't be as dry. Depending on the direction of the wind you might just have to find the right alcove. Sorry I can't give any info on the bouldering.
