Anyone seen or have any experience with the new petzl sum tec comming out this summer? Looking to get something like that. Currently I own a pair or nomics, pair or quarks and an aluminum straight axe. I want to find something that has some length for walking and using as a cane but also able to climb sections of AI 2-3 with some occasional use on rock. Anyone used that new sum tec yet and have any opinions of its and if it is much better then the current version. I was thinking of getting the 59 adze. Thanks...

Old Sumtec is pretty awesome for ski mountaineering, climbs grade 2-3 ice well, plunges like a straight shafted axe if you move the trigrest up. Pair it with a quark and you have a ton of versatility. The newer ones are lighter but I would imagine it works just as well for the application.

New ones have a new quark/nomic type head and use the quark/nomic picks and other accessories (adze and hammer or microhammer). Main shaft is similar enough to the old one.

Dane seems pretty stoked for it - refers to it as "just a toned down Nomic."
