I started my ice journey back in 2002 and haven't found anything better tan ice. Too bad I can't live in an area where we get more months of ice. Here is an article produced by Petzl that covers the basics. enjoy.
Good post! For me, it was a matter of reading and watching everything on the internet. Read everything Will Gadd had to say, and Mike House, too! Climb a fuck ton of ice on Top Rope, then lead well below my abilities. Climb with various other people. Good gear is important too, but that's a pretty concise summary in addition to fitness and general climbing movement.
Leading ice is not to be fucked with. You'll know when you're actually ready. Trust your gut!
