Needles Spring Climbing Conditions?

Curious to find out when the Needles are climbable typically in the spring time? I see the weather is starting to perk up, in the 50s, but I am not sure what the snow conditions typically are in the area.

Thank you!

Better make sure the roads are open before you go, since they close in the winter.

Road opens up fairly far into the spring, even in modest snow years. Since southern sierra snowpack is 200% of average, I bet it will be a while before it opens this year.

I guess it depends on what you define as "Spring". The gate on the access (dirt) road usually doesn't open until after Memorial Day. Same with Hwy. 190, which leads further south to Dome Rock and is the northern approach for the lower road to Needlerock Creek. Even if Hwy. 190 is still closed, it's not that far to walk to Dome Rock if you're so inclined. Voodoo Dome can be accessed earlier if you take the lower road in from California Hot Springs. That road is gated as well but usually opens much earlier because it's at lower elevation.
