How does one lose and carry on? Just over ten years ago I lost my friend who introduced me to the family of climbing when he passed away in a rappelling accident and last year I was very close to a friend who died in a similar circumstance. I want to live and follow our dreams. What is people's experience, strength and hope with this?

I'm sorry I don't have any similar personal experiences. I did stumble upon an interesting collection of articles dealing with this issue at If you google for "American whitewater dealing with loss" you can find them. Though not climbing specific, I feel they might be pertinent. I hope you find the help you need somewhere.

'Where the Mountain Casts its Shadow'

and to a lesser degree, but a good read:
'Forget Me Not'

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
