I currently have two 60m ropes and one 60m static line. With the good deals on ropes today, I'm thinking about getting a 80m(9.8)rope specifically for Devils Tower next summer. What do you think? Or should I just get another set of cams? They're on sale toda too.

Now thats a dilemma. How old are your current ropes? How many cams do you have? If the ropes are two years or less get cams. If not, I would get a 70

Ropes are four years old. The static line is three years old. I have one set of the C4, .3-#6 and one set of Camelot X4. I do feel like I have plenty, but I am also planning on heading down to Indian Creek next fall so at some point I need some hand size cams.

Can you share where the 80m rope deal is? In Red Rock they are very useful to have!

IIRC, routes at Devil's Tower were established when ropes came in 50m lengths. So if you're thinking of getting off the climbs with single rope raps, 80 won't do much good...

This is the best rope I've ever tied into, and only 8.7mm and 51 grams per meter. backcountry.com/mammut-sere...

Appropriate quantity of ropes to own is always n+1 with n being the current number of ropes owned. You're welcome.

An 80m really seems overkill. I'd stick with a 60 or 70.

This is a fact. A single 70m will get you off the top, via bowling alley raps.

The best way to rap DT is to use 70m half/twins in my opinion...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
