Ice harness
|
I don't see anywhere on that Grivel one that has much of an attachment to keep it positioned on the harness like most clippers do, it kind of looks like any other biner but with that little nub on top. I'd take the Vault over that or just tape a biner on to my harness. I started off with the biner method but I found that it would always end up rotating side to side which is why I prefer the clippers that actually seat into the harness and stay put. |

I can never figure out why people need more than two ice clippers. How many screws are you guys placing on lead?! |

Shepido wrote: 16 screws on lead, I guess is the answer. I would need 3 clippers for that, personally. I can see the reason for up to 4 honestly.Listen... Im looking for a harness with 6, is that such a big deal? if you guy`s wanna have a discussion about how many is legal to have, have it in a separate tread, plz, and leading Wi6/6+ for 40-60m pitches requires many screws and I personally like to have em separated the way I like so the screw I need is always accessible . I don't think is that crazy of an idea ... I would love to see you climb with 16 screws on 3 clippers ! I'm gonna test that after work today to see how it fits. Ill post a picture . |

Got it. I'm not even close to leading at that level, which explains my ignorance. Thanks guys! |

Ill post a picture .First of all Theriault.. I don't wanna hear about you climbing ice after work today. I was pumped to head up to the Dacks this weekend. Do something stupid like think I'm placing any screws on my first lead of the year. Mother Nature took a dump on that idea. Second, it's Shepido's second season ice climbing. I remember that time on my life. Didnt know shit but had an opinion on everything. I just chuckle at all guys on here like that. |

There's pictures of Chouinard's on NEice. Matt Horner and company did it last week. It's always exciting trying to follow someone up the first 20 feet of Shipton's to get to that and Dogleg before the pond freezes. I saw a pic of Justin McGiver soloing CIT last Wednesday. He said it wasn't in but I bet it looked good before the rain. I think this rain will ruin everything though. I'm hoping friends have something good to say Thursday.. Doubt it! Gunkie Mike made me some stubbies outta Petzl Laser Speeds. He did a great job too! I borrowed a friends early season rack last year. I felt all bad ass until I left all it on the ground. |

I climbed at Pitchoff last Wednesday - ice was too thin for screws but great fun on TR. I went back on Saturday hoping to climb NF of Pitchoff and it rained the whole drive up so we hiked to Avalanche Pass for some exercise. I heard that it was delaminated and thin after that. I saw CIT from the road and it was definitely thin but climbable (with no gear). The slab and some others were starting to form up. There was (some) ice up in the pass. Mid-upper 40's today-Friday plus rain - not looking good for this weekend. Hopeful for next weekend though! Anyone in the Dacks feel free to PM me if you need a partner this season. |

Guess this thread has been officially jacked...maybe we need an ADK '16/17 conditions thread. |

Haha - yea you're right Bill! Better to keep a few secrets... I was tempted to not comment on conditions at all but I can't resist helping out the fellow icey hearts. I have every Friday off which is practically always a climbing day for me (rock or ice). I can also make it to the pond around 12:30 for a quick fix on Thursdays. I'll usually get in a Saturday or Sunday too...or both if conditions are really nice. |

Just remember the rule. You get as many screws as the pitch is difficult. WI6 - You get 6 screws. ;) |

I don't know how burly of a harness you're looking for but this is a lightweight one with 6 slots. Easy on/off leg loops BD Couloir style. |
