DIP joint injury and rehabilitation

I've had pain in my DIP joint (first digit of my middle finger, on the side facing my pointer) for almost a year now. The injury resulted from a project I had at the time that involved essentially campusing off of a single digit (the one that is now hurt, obviously) finger lock. The injury hasn't impeded my climbing at all and only really hurts during hard fingerlocks (no surprise there) of if I don't tape it and am using hard sidepulls/gastons. After a day of hard climbing it's usually a bit tender and definitely hurts if I apply sideways pressure to the first digit (think trying to bend your fingertip side to side). Furthermore, I usually cant completely close the finger (the tip stops about a quarter of an inch from my palm).

My question, then, is whether anyone else on here has experienced a similar injury and what, if anything, was done to remedy it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
