My boy scout troop is looking for a climbing instructor we can hire for occasional outings. We’ve talked to companies, e.g. Outdoor Adventure Club, but we’re hoping to hire an individual. The BSA requires certification such as AMGA Single Pitch Instructor. We’re located in Los Altos, in the south bay. If you’re interested, please contact me.

You may want to reach out to your local BSA area council HQ. They may have some contacts for you.

Hi Ken,

I'm a BSA trained Level II instructor. The new requirements from BSA are that you have at least one Level II instructor running the event, as well as a Level I for the event. Level II is what used to be a Climbing Director. Before you could just have a Level I, but the requirement has change to need the higher trained Level II.

Your local council H.A.T. (High Adventure Team) will have not only instructors who volunteer, but in most cases all the gear you would need to borrow (for a small donation). Check your local council and web site, or contact your District Executive. If you don't know how to get that info, just post here what council you are a part of and I can get that info for you.

The requirement for an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor is not accurate, since that isn't the case.

If after contacting your local council, they do not have anyone to help out, then please reach out to me here via private message. I would be willing to help out if our calendars match up - might even be able to find another instructor to go along.

Good luck and thank you for helping your scouts have one of the most incredible growth experience in scouting through climbing!

Your in service,
