Hello!

My name is Mason, and I'm a recent transplant from the Black Hills of SD to Petoskey, MI. I'm heading north tomorrow to camp in either the Munising or Marquette area and am looking for a climber partner or partners on the 28th and 29th. I'm totally new to the area so I'm looking more at easier classics, nothing above 5'9". I climbed 5'10 in the Black HIlls, but I've been out of practice for the last few months since there is NOTHING to climb anywhere near Petoskey. Please feel free to email at mason.voehl.cfh@gmail.com if available.

I'm also interested in getting into ice climbing this winter, since this is something we had very little of in SD. Is there any kind of group that sets routes and climbs regularly that I could be a part of?

Thanks in advice.

Cheers,

Mason

Hi Mason!

I'm a student up at Michigan Tech and I'm currently working on a new guidebook for Michigan.

If you're looking for partners to climb with I'd recommend getting in touch with the South Superior Climbing Club ( facebook.com/groups/southsu...). That's going to be your best bet for finding a partner in the area. Down Wind sports has a lot of info on the climbing in the area and is a good local resource to contact ( downwindsports.com/mainSite/).

As far as ice climbing goes, Munising is the epicenter of ice climbing in Michigan, if not the midwest. In early February the Michigan Icefest takes place and is an excellent opportunity to sample the local climbs in addition to the clinics, gear demos, and beer offered.

If you ever find yourself over towards Houghton, let me know and I'd be happen to climb. Feel free to PM me if you need any more info.

Thanks so much, Vincent! I really appreciate the info. I'll be at Icefest, and will certainly let you know next time I'm up in this area. I'm hoping to take another trip in October over 4-5 days to get my climbing fill before the snow falls, so I will certainly let you know.

Thanks again!

Cheers,

Mason
