Hate to burst the old bubble, but there is no potential for climbing in kansas. People have been climbing at rock city for years, and I find it funny when every few years someone comes and along and thinks they've discovered a new problem. Its rock city, its pretty much all eliminates if you want to spend more than a few hours there.
Yes you could spend years in kansas searching out one crusty boulder out in the middle of a bug infested, sun scorched field. And trust me I have braved it all. Its really not worth the time

Hate to burst your bubble but your negativity is unwanted. I wasnt born or raised in colorado, California etc. And i think we all deserve the to climb at home. So unless you have some positivity of helpful info to add your opinion is unwanted. Im trying to grow the sport not put people down for trying.

You'll build plenty of negativity being a climber in kansas, just give it a few years. Im just saying, I've been in your shoes and you could have alot more fun, building a home training gym, saving your money, and going on weekend trips.
Any who I'll be sweating it out at rock city and indian rock next weekend. Hit it up if your game for some angry, bubble free, kansas bouldering;)

The problem here I think is you need a climbing mentor. To school you on ethics. Please dont take this the wrong way. You choose to post a problem (thats what routs on boulders are called where im from) that is one of the most obvious lines out there. Native Americans probably did it 300 years ago. I personally have done it in ever configuration imaginable (have you ever jammed the crack only?)and never felt the need to give it a name.

Also alot of the boulders in kansas are super dangerous because of the extremely chossy nature of 99% of the 1% of rock that actually exists in kansas.

Now bear with me, I know you kids these days have short attention spans.

The real problem is not the need to grow the sport. The problem is what to do with all these people that learn about climbing in a gym, and proceed to go outside and f up everything. Watch somebody get dropped from 30ft on top rope and you'll be wondering yourself.

Plenty of Potential in Kansas for growing soybeans, wheat or corn but I don't think plenty of potential and climbing in kansas should be used in the same phrase unless it's tongue in cheek. hahah!

You live in Shawnee, KS and you are going to Rock City instead of Warsaw, Trappers, Providence, Raven Rock, etc.

Missouri still has lots of potential, there is more sandstone out there than you think.

I am truly sorry for being a ass. Normally I dont care. Its just I've been climbing there forever, I go there every holiday im at home visiting my parents, and its already crowded with imbred locals, just sight seeing. If people want to find out about kansas they all can check it out on the kansas listing here on mp. Alright I'm done, nothing more to say on the subject no one really cares about. (Hence the reason no one else has commented)

My first thought was who in their right mind is actually climbing at Rock City. Then I did a google map search of where exactly Shawnee, KS is and almost vomited. I feel for you Riley

It's all good. Technically, it's the closest actual "rock climbing" for me although I haven't been there in many years. I refer to it as Eliminate City.

Dude, just go to warsaw, trappers, HCR and Sam's Throne on the weekends and quit torturing yourself.

For all of you telling me to go to missouri i go there every weekend but im getting tired of it. We should be helping eachother out not tearing them down. This has not been my normal experience with the climbing community. There has been way to much hate going on this thread. Dont we all want the same thing? I juat want to climb! So please if you dont have anything construtive to say then dont post anything.

If kansas is the 48th worst state in the usa to climb in, than Missouri is probably like 43.is that constructive.

You do you, man. If Rock City draws your attention, then kill it. I think what we (as condescending as it may have come across at times) were trying to convey is that you could spend your time more constructively exploring or developing areas much more accessible and worth while. Have you climbed at Blue River Bend? If it were me, I would spend my time pushing my limits at places like that and the boulders around Blue River and Swope before driving 2.5 hours to boulder in bfe Kansas

So the OP is young and obviously more idealistic than a couple on this thread.
Him and his bros are putting a face to a name. So what. He should have put in more time doing some research but he didn't. Again so what.

Good on em for trying to bring more awareness to the very limited climbing in his home state.

We have a guy only 12 years older than the OP on here calling him a kid with a short attention span and then stepping back for being an ass. Well played Pitts.
The only thing that comes out of an ass is gas and shit. Then you have to wipe it clean to make it acceptable for the general public.

To the OP, ignore all the incessant clucking from the hens in the yard and do what you want.

Twas a backhanded comment, thanks for straightening me up...

also,in the process of pointing out the obvious, Mr.Price, sir, you have in fact stooped to the very adolescent act of name calling: hens...clucking, definitely not something I tell my friends about:)
