Need easy grades, good approaches and safe base area. If there is not much of that, how about an easy sport or trad lead with a kid friendly top out.

Two weeks ago, my brother and I took our kids (ages 7-10) climbing at White Cliff, just barely outside of Frisco:…

There are three easy single pitch routes on the east end that are well bolted. I led them and set up top ropes (50 m rope is fine) on solid 2-bolt anchors. It might be possible to set up your own top rope anchors if you want. There is access to the cliff top, but anchors could be a ways from the cliff edge where things get vertical.

Access is short (10-15 min walk), but steep, on a clear trail. The base is reasonably safe, possibly sprained ankle territory, not worse than that though. The base has a little shade from small aspens, but not a ton. The climbs get sun most of the day. There is some highway noise, but not any louder than 5 kids.

Everyone had fun and wants to go back - that's a good sign.

Thank you Tim, this is exactly the type of information I was looking for.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
