Rock creek/Pine creek camping?

Possibly headed to either of these places for the holiday weekend. Just wondering what the camping is like in either canyon? I understand that Pine creek has great sites next to a creek but that camping in general is very limited so it may be filled up by the time we show up late Friday night? How about Rock Creek? I saw there are lots of pay camp grounds but how about free ones? Any forest service roads up there that are accessible for passenger cars?

Pine creek does have great spots, but can fill up on busy weekends. Rock creek doesn't have any legitimate free spots that I know of, but you can drive out of the canyon and cross the 395 onto Owens gorge Rd, drive through a small town, and about 5 minutes from the 395 you'll start seeing dirt roads which have pullouts and some nice camping spots.

There's plenty of rough campsites and places to park off the road along Gorge Road. Put this address into your GPS and turn left at the T intersection. 1401 Gorge Road, Bishop, CA 93514.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
