I'm heading down to Smith Rock for the first time with my daughter (age 7), and I'm wondering if there are any easy-moderate (up to 5.8) top rope routes that can be set up from above - i.e., without a belay, since it'll just be us two, me belaying and her climbing.

Hi Julien,
Your best bets are the rope de dope wall and Northern Point. They are both very close to the parking lots and offer top down access.

Second Rope De Rope. There is a bit of a pain in the ass climb up the back or you could lead any of the easier routes. Once on top every climb can be topped.

Have fun and be safe!

Many of the trad climbs in the Lower Gorge can be accessed from the top. The easier routes are kind of spread out, but not too bad. Plus I doubt you'll have to deal with any crowds.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
