Have both a Micro traction and a tibloc for my crevasse rescue system. Petzl recommends an oval carabiner for both.

I realize that the tibloc is sensitive to caribener diameter and shape but wondering if an HMS style would work well enough as long as the tibloc had a round cross-section carabiner? Couldn't tell the difference testing in my back yard, but haven't used in real life.

Practically, it doesn't matter. Use whatever is handy and efficient. Ovals are less annoying though I tend to multi purpose other biners and shave dedicated gear weight.

I have found just about any caribiner will work with a tibloc because in t eh end the caribiner will all ways orientate the same way, cant speak for the micro traxion though.

If I understand correctly, the Tibloc will work with any biner that has a round cross-section. I can't speak for the micro trax but the mini trax works just fine on an HMS and I use it all the time with an HMS for soloing. I'd probably just take both an HMS and an oval, just to have options.

I use the tibloc all the time with a dmm spectre 2 it's practically a rectangle, works fine.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
