Mt. Gimli / Valhallas conditions report?

Wanting to head up and climb Gimli in Valhalla Provincial Park this weekend, but finding it tough to come up with any current condition information.

I've heard a few things:

1) The road up is pretty rough right now, I suspect due to all the rain lately.
2) The back side decent route may still be holding quite a bit of snow.
3) There is some new rock fall within the past few weeks, but the person I talked to didn't know more than that.

Has anyone been up there this year? Thanks!

I haven't been up there this year but you're more likely to get a prompt response posting in the Kootenay climbing facebook group. Are you planning on doing the south ridge?

Road is probably still pretty rough but managaable with HC...although I've seen an acura integra up there before in late summer.

It was a snowy winter and I suspect there to be still a good amount of snow above treeline.

Last time I heard about rockfall was on the west face.

best of luck - beautiful place.

Thanks, Dom. I just got approved for the FB group and made a post in there. I'd also heard about the rock fall from last year, but a guy I spoke with at one of the shops in Nelson said he'd heard about a new rock fall very recently.

You're correct, planning to do the south ridge and possible something else if we get a big enough weather window.

the road conditions are fine, people drove ford focus up them, suv truck would be better but 2wd car and careful driving through small bits of upper parts is fine.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
