Spontaneous climbing survery

I am not a student writing my dissertation on climbing. I am not a gear dealer trying to pick up demographic info. I am not a government spy collecting data to deny insurance coverage (not to belittle those that have put up some actual legitimate surveys).

Nonetheless, here's some random questions about the nature of your climbing just for the heck of it! Because why not just talk about something we all love? Hopefully this will give you something interesting to do on a slow day at work, inspire you to get out onto the rock this weekend, or at least just spark some interesting discussion*!

Climbing survey

Any interesting findings/correlations will be posted back here.

This survey will take between 3 and 999* minutes to complete. All answers will be used to fuel my ability to take over the world*. Answers* will only be shared with myself and a few select others*.

Please note: I am not a troll**

Also, if anyone wants to see any interesting but meaningless correlations based off of these questions, let me know.

Examples might include: Do people who haven't showered in the last year take the biggest falls?
Do people who like crack really get the most partners?
Do those who wear spandex have the catchiest catch phrases?

These and many more analyses (some might actually be serious/interesting) to follow after the weekend.

You may be interested in my earlier post (Why do you climb) and survey, including results. It was rightly criticized for being equally comprehensive due to the 10 question limit of Survey Monkey.

In case any of you are interested, here are some results to date:

For some reason, people radically (>4x over any other cam size) prefer the #2 BD C4 cam over all other sizes (it was statistically significant).

slopers are officially the worst kind of hold

People who only use grigris on average have taken much bigger falls than people who never use grigris (>50% have fallen 16 feet or further in the group that only uses grigris, compared to fewer than 35%)

People who never use grigris are more likely to be self-described adrenaline junkies, whereas everyone else is just addicted to climbing.

People who wear spandex climb with the most partners (40% had 7 or more this last year, and 30% had 4-6). They also fall to the ground a lot more than the average climber (fewer than 10% have never hit the ground compared to a 40% average)

The average time to take the survey was less than 3 and a half minutes. People who took significantly longer to complete it (more than 10 minutes) were generally newer to the sport and/or they had a less favorable opinion of every hold type except for jugs.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
