Hey all,

So, I will be in the San Antonio/Austin area this summer during the end of June/early July. I've been meaning to hit up Enchanted Rock and was wondering whether this was feasible during the summer. Are there walls that stay in the shade, and is it tolerable then? I've climbed at Reimer's around that time and it was ok in the morning, so I'm willing to go super early (or late?) if needed. I'm mostly hoping to get on some classic trad routes and maybe a few of the multi-pitches that go up the dome like the Kracken. Any advice?

It'll be HOT, but there is plenty of shade around. The Fear of Flying area on Buzzard's Roost and the Triple Cracks area both get plenty of shade. The multipitches? Not so much, unless you get up really early.

Yeah, I figured as much...every one of them looked exposed as hell, which is why I want to do 'em, heh. On the plus side, maybe the crowds will be a bit thinner...last time I tried to go, there was a huge car line to get in because the park was at capacity.

I did a bunch of summer time climbing there around 2010-2011. The Backside multi-pitches are ok until about 10 or 11am. By Noon it's brutal.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
