Looking for input on whether to bring snow shoes or crampons on a hike to Grandeur Peak and Bells Canyon a week from now. Space is at a premium since we are already lugging 2 pairs of downhill ski gear. With 50 degree days in the forecast looking for alternative ways to spend what was suppose to be a week of skiing. Husband does not climb so that's out.

I think both of those trails see a bunch of traffic all winter long. Should be packed out. I'd suggest maybe some of those yaktrak type spikes for your hiking shoes is all.

Some of the foothill trails should be good then too. Georges Hollow (Big Beacon) is one I'd recommend.

You'll be skiing.

50's forecast is for in town. Alta forecast highs this weekend are 41 on Sat and 38 on Sun, warm but fine for skiing.

Follow conditions reports here for an idea: Salt Lake Area Advisory

or

Cottonwood Canyons

I hiked up Grandeur on Saturday - trail is well packed but slippery so microspikes are nice.

Olympus will be in great shape too. In the last week, I've been up Bells, Grandeur, and Olympus in nothing but spikes and it was just fine. Horsetail Falls near Alpine and Squaw Peak in Provo are also in great shape to hike/run.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
