I am a skinny guy with a 32 waist. I know we come in all sizes and shapes, but most guys seem to be about that waist size when they are in shape. Why is it that that is on the break point of harness sizing then. If you get a medium the gear loops are too far back, a large feels like a potato sack! I think 32 should be mid point of a size. That would make a perfect fit for a lot of us!

I'm a 32 waist when I'm skinny (right now I have 10lbs extra, and am an inch or two bigger). I'm not sure why you are between medium and large, I can buy a medium and cinch it down as far as it goes, or get a small. Are you sure that medium/large is right for you?

just a note that mammut harness sizing (ophir) is in between some other brands (BD, dead bird) their ophir large for example is between a BD momentum medium and large .... try enough harnesses and youll find something out there ;)

That would make a perfect fit for a lot of us! I'm a 32 waist as well, and actually have found the opposite to be true. In my experience, it seems like the gear loops on most harnesses are centered based on one the smallest they will go, not based on the middle of their range. This ends up being perfect for me because I get a harness that has a minimum waist of 32, the gear loops are centered where I want them, and then if I need to wear the harness with a coat or layers I still have room to fit the harness over it all (albeit without centered gear loops).

My thought as well, medium cinched all the way is what I wear with a 32 waist.

Even (and especially) on the women's harnesses, the gear loops are stupid far back or further back on one side and not the other.

No clue about you or you're climbing experience, so don't take this the wrong way. Maybe you're wearing your harness lower than it's designed to be worn. Harnesses are meant to sit a good deal higher on your waist than pants.

I'm a 32 as well, and most mediums I try fit just fine.

Yeah, I also have a 32" waist and have had no trouble getting mediums with a single waist buckle that fit perfectly (two Petzls, one BD, and one Arctyrex). Most of these are indeed cinched down all the way, but the gear loops line up perfectly this way (which I believe is by design - a harness is more comfortable with padding all the way around). If you are really having trouble you could something with a two waist-buckle design (BD has a gym harness that comes in small/medium, and there's also the Misty Cadillac). I'm also wondering if you're wearing it too low. Should sit about 2" higher than most guys wear a belt.

I think you're underestimating the proportion of climbers that are little girly men with small frames.

Misty Mountain has always been very good about using tailored measurements to improve the sizing process. They can also make custom waist to leg sizing to an extent, meaning, Small belt, Med legs, etc. The double buckle models, Cadillac, Cadillac QA and Titan also provide some nice overlapping without covering multiple size ranges.

This becomes quite apparent when you're outside that category; my legs are only 4" smaller than my pant size and my ass is quite a bit bigger than both. I had to completely undo the waist of by medium BD harness just to get it on, then cinch it all the way back down. So I stole my girlfriend's Misty and all is well

You think you have problems finding harnesses that fit? I have a 40" waist and the thighs of a powerlifter...

I've been around a 31-32 for years and find my harnesses to be a perfect fit. Formerly BD Momentum SA's and maybe the Ozone now??.....haha I dont' even know the harness style I currently wear, they make so many
