Of the two sections there, the vertical wall is looking much closer to climbable (there are probably a couple flows there that are good to go right now - will almost certainly require v-threads for anchors) than the slab wall. Last I looked, a few days ago, I saw a couple lines that looked protectable - probably went at WI4 or harder. If that's not what you're talking about, I'd like to know what else there is in Dickeyville.
No that is what I'm talking about. Any chance I can get you to show me around the place sometime this year?

Eric.... I you decide to drill and place bolts at Todd's quarry I would think you would want to use as long a glue in and corrosion resistant style you can find.... the place is super damp in the summer months and the rock quality is pretty bad. I have contemplating attempting to place bolts there myself but wasn't able to last season and won't be able to this season either......

Went to Wyalusing on Saturday. The quarry looked like the warm weather was taking its toll, so we checked out the stuff along the tracks. We found some climbable routes, but not much. We also drove over the river to Pike's Peak SP in IA - Bridalveil Falls was decidedly not in. On the way home we stopped by Governor Dodge and took a few quick laps in Cox Hollow.

I am almost certain that the weather over the last few days since we were out will have taken a pretty heavy toll on most of this stuff.

There is a fair amount of cold in the 10-day forecast, so maybe, just maybe we'll be back to ice climbing by Christmas.

Well it sucks, sucks, sucks down here in temperate Illinois area,,where we are still waiting for low freezing temps to freeze up anything yet.....looks like mid January down this way before any ice start up.

Wish we could gain access to one of the quarries in our area.... there is plenty of great ice 50-150' below grade!

I thought you had a quarry you could climb in near you, Roger?

I should have said that I wish I had access to the local quarries that have north facing walls where the ice forms up quickly, consistently, naturally and last into the warm ups.
The quarry that I have access to has a east facing wall that forms up in colder weather. That ice, as fun as it is, has not formed yet.

I have not been there, but if I had to guess, I would assume that, based on the weather we've had in SW Wisconsin and the impact it has had on the ice here, Starved Rock is starting from scratch. I could be wrong, but that canyon would need to have its own (very weird) weather pattern.

The weather stinks for forming ice at least for the next weeks forecast. It may be until the end of January before we see ice to climb at SRSP. :(

I quit doing the round trip 'recon' drives down there just to check on ice several years ago. Used to post at Climbingcentral...didn't know the site is down,,or gone,,whatever. From experience,,I'd say they have zero going on so far. We've had little precip in last few months to flow much..and no cold weather since just before Thanksgiving. My guess is that IF ice forms, as has been the situation for most of the last 15+ years,,it won't form up much until very late Jan. if at all. We got lucky last year with a few weeks of ice out there. It certainly is nothing like the old days,,when they were frozen solid and thick throughout the park by week after Christmas yearly.,,and of course with so many more canyons open for our use back then too. Not much ice, limited access, and lousy weather has not made it much of an attraction for a long time now.

Gokul and Adam..

There is ice to climb down on the tracks. It's just a bit thin over most of it for leading although it could be done on the left side I am thinking if you just choose your screw spots carefully. The top out is non ice... just frozen turf from the little shelf at the top of the main pillar. There wasn't any water running down it yesterday.... it was weird because usually there is some water flowing. Same thing over at the Quarry. Eric and I think that because there is so little snow the frost may be getting deeper quicker into the ground and maybe locking up the ground water flow. If there is a good amount of ground water recharge (you would think there is after all the Dec rain we received) the water will eventually flow again. Attached are the recent photos I took from yesterday 01-04-15.
