Spell Checker

A spell checker is now available when posting information. After completing a form, press the Spell Check button to check your text for spelling errors.

Some considerations:

  • Just remember this isn't MS Office 2050XP, so it is fairly simple
  • I haven't figured out how to add our own set of custom "climbing" terms yet, so things like toprope, arete, etc. will be flagged. I'm hoping to add a custom dictionary soon.

Outstanding!

You're right though-- an "Add this word" feature would be fantastic.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to have an "Add this word" button. It is a canned spell checker and it doesn't have that feature. If I come across a better one I might try to install it, though this one took 6 fricken' hours to install. Java sucks IMO.

What we can have is a fixed list of words we can keep adding to - but it is a manual process (i.e. updating a text file on the server). But there are probably only 100-200 climbing specific words anyways...

Makes sense. It'd be nice not to have to tell the spell checker that yes, I really did mean to type "Squamish" and not "Squeamish" every time. :)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
