It's not dead yet. Show your support by simply making use of the area and experiencing its beauty (bonus points for supporting Apache Stronghold or writing letters).

Just moved back from Seattle and have been trying to document many of the problems I did back in the day, many of which I've been re-climbing because, fun! Oak Flats has much new info, with much more to come: https://www.mountainproject.com/area/106959022/oak-flats (Eurodog, I have my eyes on you next...)

And it's not just a local concern, thanks to the mining company destroying sacred land in other countries, and top execs resigning as a result: https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2020-12-13/oak-flat-arizona-copper-mining-apache

Long term, it could seriously set a bad precedent, any foreign company could come in and destroy land for their own benefit if this is allowed.

PS While one of the worst droughts is hitting the SW ( azcentral.com/in-depth/news…), the mine wants to use millions of gallons of water without a second thought ( azcentral.com/story/news/lo….)

All a result of our sellout politicians (on both sides) taking dirty  foreign money for their "campaigns" . Slipping things like this into "defense" bills while taking foreign money seems a bit like treason to me. Treasonous party 1 and treasonous party 2 are just two peas in a pod and now they have their followers fighting like rabid packs of dogs over who is less treasonous.

Oak Flat is an amazing spot.

Edit:
There's also a super easy form to fill out to help prevent mining destroying public lands in general:

There is a MoveOn petition that is simple to add on to also:

No, never "dead," slighted, disfigured, and abused yes, but never dead.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
