11 or 12 French climbers from about 1985-1994 that could each out-climb in multi disciplines any American specialists in single disciplines (8,000meters, plastic competitions, free solo rock, ice/mixed, ski descents) Imagine soloing a technical new route on a Himalayan giant one month, then beating a Nathan Coleman, in a competition, or outsoloing an Alex H in today’s terms. These all arounders are unmatched even to this day. You won’t get this from reading American climbing magazines or websites.
In the 1980's Galen Rowell presented grand slide shows for the Sierra Club among others that featured his adventures around the world .His photos of people & places were always outstanding . In the 1990's Reinhold Messner presented a slide show to a sell-out crowd of climbers in Berkeley that featured his personal slides . While Reinhold's photo skills did not match Galen's his humor , curiosity , & ethics stood out .In 1998 Ed Viesturs presented the IMAX film "Everest" in Reno with a very interesting q&a session .

I'm lookin at this video from that time period and I see Albert Stalk wearing work gloves and boots, and sporting his team battle dress.
The Frenchmen are wearing Froot Loop suits and A ROPE!
Si McCartney & Jack Roberts. After reading about their two epics in Alaska, in Simons book "The Bond" about their ascents on the north face of mt. Huntington and the SW face of Denali. I couldn't put the book down. Major props go to Jim Bridwell, for being the burning man on the wall and all the Stonemasters.
