Agreed with the others, climbed a number of times on a friend's home gym, where he added sand to the paint. It didn't add anything worthwhile, and chewed up your skin. No bueno.

Texture helps keeps holds from spinning.  You don’t have to crank down the holds as tight and thus have fewer problems with paint sticking to your holds.  Add sharkgrip paint additive or equivalent, it is lighter and stays in solution vs sinking to the bottom of the can like sand does.

Why would you bolt in a home gym? Just screw on the holds even if you're resetting every month (which is excessive in a home gym) you probably won't have to replace the ply for a few years.
