Has anyone been climbing at Cardinal Pinnacle recently?  Is there snow at the base?  Hoping to head up there this weekend. Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

Call Sierra Mountain Guides and ask. They're usually helpful.

JFYI, partner and i went up last year at this time, touches of snow at the base. It was 65+ in Bishop. The cracks were so cold after 5 minutes of climbing we could not feel our hands, could not tell without visually checking if we were holding gear. COLD ain't in it. We bailed. It's a long walk to get that!
OK, it's not a long walk when the rock is not froze!

Thanks Muscrat, that helps greatly - maybe we'll do a day out at the PSOM slab, see how that goes and maybe head up to Cardinal on Sunday.

If you haven't done John Fischer Memorial Route on PSOM, do. Stellar. The crux pitch feels great with brassies, thin, well protected.

Hey FrankPS and Muscrat,

Wanted to report back and say thanks for the input on the conditions.  I gave the Sierra Mtn Guides and the small resort in Aspendell a call the day before going up to climb - both gave good weather information.  Started climbing around 10am, first pitch was super cold on the hands in shade - belayed on a large patch of snow at the base of the climb, second pitch lead into sunlight and from there on it was smooth sailing in great weather.

Second day out we got on The High Life and The Big Deal in perfect weather.

Thanks again.

Best,
Nick
