Watching videos of people climbing without ropes has inspired me to start climbing.  Can anyone recommend some good cliffs for a beginning soloist.  Also, which satellite beacon should I get in case I can't get cell reception?

I would start on snake dike... best starting free solo route there is.

If you can run 5 miles in the heartland at a brisk pace, you can easily solo Rainier in a single push.  Just shadow a guided group through the glaciers.  If anything goes wrong, their NP concession requires them to save you.  And don't bother with a permit either.  That's strictly for suckers.

Being a really good climber doesn’t really mean shit.

There's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good at climbing.

No one is ever offended as long as you begin your post "I hate to say it but,..."

Although trolling Tradiban at his own game was the highlight of my day, a couple of people (who emailed me) have taken the Alex posts out of context (the setup was that good) and thought something really happened to him. And this after being "Rick Rolled" (I realize not everyone knows what that is.)

With that said, and out of respect for Alex, who is, as far as I'm aware, still alive and well, I'd vote for their removal. And this to avoid future confusion and or rumors.

I will, however, leave it up to the committee that is the MP community and Admins, of course.

Confusion and rumor is what makes it fun.

Friction isn't climbing, its steep hiking with special shoes.

Hiking if you are going up hill is climbing

climbing - the sport or activity of ascending mountains or cliffs.

Permits are always optional.

Being Canadian is an excuse if caught.

When people say I just did my first "whatever" grade, tell them it's been downgraded on MP.

Ditto for speed tickets: "Hey, I hate that metric system just as much as you do sir"
