Brad Gobright and Jim Reynolds have broken the record on the Nose with a time of 2:19 (4 minutes faster than the previous record set by Alex Honnold and Hans Florine). Way to go!

It's insane! And amazing! A friend of mine is there right now, they watched it as it happened.

I think it was our recent thread conversation here on mp about how speed climbing is lame that convinced Gobright to do this. Congrats mountainproject!

I just cannot imagine that Honnold wouldn't re-take the Nose record, and do it in mind blowing fashion.

I was floored when I saw the Nose speed record list, and that Hans was on it in 1990 and again in 2012. Quite a feat to be speedy for so long. My first car was a 1991 model and it's been long gone. It's my understanding from reading Hans' book and Nat Geo's interview with Brad and Jim that it's prudent to have team with both a bold free solo'er and a prolific aid climber to make the best team for breaking the speed record. They didn't say the word "free solo'er", but essentially that's what it is. You need some high grade free climber who is willing to run out, run way out, where Brad and Alex excels.
